Baroque Guitar - Vihuela - Renaissance Guitar - Early mandolin - Gittern etc
fecit potentiam - Duo de Josquin by Fuenllana
I have a new vihuela on order from Alexander Batov. In the meantime, my friend Richard Jones, fine maker of Renaissance viols, has loaned me his old vihuela. It is in need of refretting as it is prone to the odd twang here and there.
This two-part piece by Fuenllana is just two parts from a work I believe is in four parts. Very enjoyable to play.

if you're still looking for this piece in French tab, you can find most of Fuenllana's works (including this one) on Serge Gerbode's website, at

Josquin's duo is in book I, number 8 (available in pdf, fronimo and tab)
Browse through the files, and you'll find a lot of vihuela and lute music by other composers as well. Not too much by Narvaez though, unfortunately ...
- btw, I joined this group about 15 minutes ago, I never knew it existed. Seems like a great place to be, I'm sure I will be spending a lot of time here.
Rob, I'm very impressed by the way you play this beautiful piece. It happens to be one of my favorite pieces to play, for the very reason you mention: it's such a joy to play it. But I must admit, I play it at a much slower pace than you do.

Hi, nice to see you plucking a vihuela by a viol-maker.
Do you have (french) tablature of this peace, or is it to bee found somewhere on the internet? The to 2-part reduced polyphony might just be right for me.
Adding extra parts to polyphonic music was quit common I think, so why not leaving out some...
I'm currently building a bass-viol like the ones Richard makes. (... inspired by the sound of his instruments) The process is slow however. I spend more time playing (viol, guitar, vihuela) than building.
