Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

Does anyone know the whereabouts of the Cocho 1602 guitar discussed in Coates? Cant find info on the Paris Conservatory site.

And is the professed Dias 1590 from the Spencer collection in the possession of Frank Koonce?

Good to be back in the early lute/guitar world after many years away!

The errant instrument is in the collection of instruments (Musee de la musique) held in the Cite de la musique complex in Paris.  I'm afraid their website is a bit shambolic and many links etc don't appear to work!

Here are a couple of direct links to their catalogue - but best of luck in negotiating it and actually getting the searches to function as expected:

Thanks Martyn! Funny the museum claims to have no such instrument. I suppose they’d know if it had been deaccessioned. The hunt continues…
