Minuetto Afandangado - Salvador Castro de Gistau

Here is the Minuetto Afandangado by Spanish composer Salvador Castro de Gistau (17??-18??). I assume it is meant to be a minuet with fandango traits. I play the theme and variations 1, 2, 4 and 6. I 'm playing on a rather early, Mirecourt-style French guitar, with gut strings by Nick Baldock. I consider it a work in progress and will probably make a complete recordeing of all the variations later this year... Please comment if you like!

Thank you, Jelma, for this information, it's really helpful. Yes, it does look as a rather 'typical' 18th century Spanish guitar but it is the bridge design that has attracted my attention. The closely spaced courses are also quite remarkable.
Keep up the good work!

Hello Alexander, and thanks. The lady in the painting is Maria Walpole, Countess Waldegrave, later Duchess of Gloucester (1736-1807). The painter is Francis Cotes (1726-1770). So, a very exciting instrument from ca 1755-1770. A probably Spanish six course guitar in the hands of a British lady! And a double first course! I'll post the photos separately. The painting was sold at Sothebys in 2008.

Very nice for a start! Shame that it ends so soon, I was expecting some a bit more boisterous variations with castanets :)

Could you tell me, if you know, who is the author of the painting (comes at c. 1:20) of a lady with a 6-course guitar and which collection does it come from?
