A network for historic guitars and vihuelas
This clip is from 1942. It might not be early guitarmusic but I still find his instrument very interesting. He was very popular in scandinavian. It sounds like he's using steelstrings or maybe its because of the sound

If you want one just like this, you can ask friendly neighborhood luthier o guitarrero to build one for you with this plans:

Two sets of guitar machines... twelve... yes TWELVE steel strings! this must be built tonka-tough!
Anyone know the tuning?
It's a 'Swedish theorbo', I think.

These things developed out of the eighteenth century citterns, popular in Britain and France and the Lowlands.
I was once talking to a Swedish person and asked about Bellman. They were very, very insistent that I should/must listen to Evert Taube. I never did - till now
It is dubbed. In traditionel moviemaking the film is first recorded then afterwards they put the sound on. I know that this singer sang to his own playing. Theres a lot of pictures where he plays this instrument.
Is it a guitarlute or what then as Scot write.
Mel, you are most likely right. I just thought it might be the lag-time with my computer trying to catch up with the video because, to me, most of it looks like his playing is off with the sound.
See they had lip-syncing (finger-syncing) way back then...why does everyone get all upset when the pop stars do it today??? It's nothing new!
Scott:
I think it's dubbed. Notice at 0:17 his hand isn't even on the instrument and yet you hear the plucking of the guitar going on.
