"Thank You Mario! I am not sure if the bridge is original, but I suppose it is. Fingerboard, saddle and nut are new on all guitars. They are all very playable and I performed on them in public. I have some recordings but they are unfortunately all in…"

My romantic guitars

"Very nice guitars indeed. The last one on the top right has a french bridge with a strange and uncomon head...I guess this part is not original: am I correct? Are they perfectly playable?? Any records? Thanks to share! Kind regards, Mário…"

Profile Information

About me:
First time I saw romantic guitar was when Pavel Steidl played Bach's Ciaccona on television. I was at the beginning of high school then. Later, during college I bought David Starobin's Giuliani CD which impressed me so much that I wanted to have one. Then Pavel Steidl came to my town and I saw him playing live which was astounding. I also took masterclass with him what was a big encouragement for me. As I said, I wanted to have an romantic guitar. I contacted all luthiers but the prices were to high for me. I checked eBay and saw that prices of original instruments are lower, so I bought one. My first romantic guitar was made by unknown builder from the beginning of the 19th century. Guitar was beautiful, like Stauffer's, which I prefer. Croatian luthier Mirko Hotko restore it and I was very happy to finally have a romantic guitar. My studies at the music academy were at the end and I had to choose a theme for my dissertation. Of course it was about romantic guitar. I made some research and fell in love even deeper. I bought two more guitars on eBay and restore them. I also made some public performances on them playing pieces by Croatian 19th century composer and guitarist Ivan Padovec (Johann Padowetz). Now I have three romantic guitars, but I am considering to sell some of them to buy a replica. You can see photos in my albums. Make me an offer I can not refuse. :-)

My biography:

Born in Požega, Croatia, Luka studied with Goran Listeš at Arts Academy University of Split, graduating with diplomas in Guitar Performance and Guitar Teaching. During his studies he won several regional and national prizes including first prize in the National Chamber Competition in Samobor in 2005.

Participating in many guitar festivals throughout Europe, Luka has had the opportunity to work with some of the greatest guitarists of our time; such as Aniello Desiderio, Costas Cotsiolis, Carlo Marchione, Pavel Steidl, Zoran Dukić, Denis Azabagić, Marco Tamayo, Marcin Dylla, luteist Hopkinson Smith etc. He was also a member of the International Guitar Orchestra Balint Bákfark in Hungary.

A keen performer, he regularly gives solo recitals and is involved in a duo with violinist Simona Cmrečnjak. He has a special interest in early romantic guitars which he uses in his performances.

Before joining Centre for Musical Arts in Dubai Luka worked in Croatia at Josip Hatze Music Conservatory in Split and Melita Lorković Music School in Trogir teaching guitar and chamber music.

Hello, Luka
thank you for invite me as your friend.

I have a beautiful photo of a Brazilian viola from the 17th century, that is supposed the original instrument for what these pieces were composed.
Best wishes,
Fernando.
