Ive seen this movie "mortal beloved" three times and I still find it very very good. Gary Oldman is one of my top favorite actor next to Collin Firth playing MR. Darcy in "Pride and Prejudice" And again. Nice wardrobe in these movies. Sorry this hasnt anything to do with 19th century guitar.

Hey Jelma. I've seen this painting before...I was just letting the "Conspiracy Theorist" side of my personality sneak through and have a little fun with it. But I do think it uncanny how Mr. Oldman captured Beethovens look for the movie "Immortal Beloved". They could almost be brothers, the facial features are so close.

It wouldn't surprise me if Beethoven could strum a few chords on the guitar (or lyre). He and Giuliani smust have been buddies so while downing one too many beers at the pub (after an especially good performance) I'm betting he'd grab Mauros guitar and belt out some Volkslieder. Afterall he wrote 150 or so of them, one has to fit on guitar!

@Scott: As far as I know this painting has a very well documented provenance and was in Beethoven's possession for most of his life... you can find out more about it very easily by googling the name of the painter. I think Gary Oldman as any good actor studied portraits of Beethoven and not the reverse :-)

Hmmm, interesting. Are you sure it's not a forgery? There is a striking resemblance to English actor Gary Oldman...especially around the lower face...looks suspect to me.

U're totally right Jelma. Funny painting though but nice clothes ;-)

And he seems to be gesturing: "Look, no nails!"

Wow. Never seen that before. Very interesting! Who will be the first to use it as a CD cover?
