I cant see it on the picture wether its his coat or not, but one thing i'm sure of is that the fashion back then dictated the bohemian life style to be casual and nonchelant.

watching Beethoven at the link above you'll get and idea of the casualness. The collars of his shirt is not stif and his neckcloth is tight very loose.
By the way. I like the sideburns of Blum. If you watch the Duo historico video in wich i play you'll see that i have allmost the same size of sidburns
