Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

Hello!
I am working In some pièces by W. Matiegka and I have some doubts about this crescendo signs placed above single notes. Are these signs a "real" crescendo, or more like an accent or sfz mark?

I've read somewhere that this type of mark are frequent in Scubert works

Thank you for your help

I would play them as accents. I've seen these marks before though turning the other way

That's surely just an accent sign, not a crescendo?
