Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

I'm looking at Francisco Guerau "harmonico pro el guitarra espaniola" on the thirteenth page, the index. He lists the number of "Diferencias" for each form in the book. I'm wondering if he intended the performer to play all of the Diferencias in order with no additional material as one would say with Bach, or if maybe he had a different intention.?

I did it again. Please move to baroque guitar. Thank you.
Looking at the first set, "pasacalles" it seems like any of them could just as likely have started the piece, and there is no satisfying conclusion at the end(no "one"chord.)

I don't think anyone really knows.   It seems to be the fashion these days to repeat the variations, play them in a different order, insert ones own invention etc.
