A BAROQUE MUSICIAN´S PERSONNAL TRIBUTE TO THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PUBLICATION OF THE BEATLES` ALBUM "ABBEY ROAD" (26.09.1969)

"Here comes the Sun"
George Harrison (1943 - 2001)

played by Siegfried Andreae - Vihuela
(built by Martin de Witte, Den Haag 1999)

This is only a dream of a fictive reconstruction of some original core ideas of this genious song, moved millions of people during the last 40 years and will touch other millions of people for the following decades.

The first elements of this song George Harrison created in his neighbours (Eric Clapton) garden in spring 1969 and played after getting an acoustic guitar by Eric...nobody exactly knows, how the very first version sounded...but the small vihuela can express the feeling of the first warm sun rays (without using a capo) by its spectrum of glittering overtones (and the doublestrings)...it´s only a dream...no exact HIP (historically informed performance) and no pure HIPPY music...but it has a trace of both...;-)) ...it´s not a cover, not a lesson, only a modest tribute...

as you already may realized, i play the final cadenza not in slow triplets as in the "official" versions, i keep the more jazzy rhythm of the forgoing bars...why not?...

one point stereo recording (without any "mastering") in the small church of Motzen (Dorfkirche Motzen, Mark Brandenburg) with its outstanding acoustic properties, ca. 20 km south of Berlin.

REMEMBER: 1969 was also the year of Woodstock., in my home country (German Democratic Republic, G:D:R or DDR 1949 - 1989) the music of the BEATLES was "unwanted" and the style was censored generally by the auithorities (Oct. 1969 - mid 70ies), after in April 1965 (!!) a BEATLES LP was published (in rather small edition). in Feb. 1968, i remember a "record player concert" in small theatre in Bratislava/Slovakia, where this music was not so strictly forbidden ;-)).
Another unpleasant aspect is the excessive abuse of DRUGS in the western scene, i can never agree with. drugs are an invention of the nature, giving some plants the advantage in the evolution to kill their enemies (parasites, as insects - or also humans???) by producing toxic alkaloids.
it´s a historic irony, that in the G.D.R. did not exist the problem with the abuse of alkloid drugs (of course, alcohol was consumed), because the dealers did not accept the country`s soft currency ;-)) ...

Great idea! The song benefits from your clear and bright vihuela tone.
