Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

Hello,

I have a question. The two fugues by Diabelli are of course true rarities during the early 19th century. But are they unique? Do you know of other fugues for guitar written c:a 1790-1830? I can think of the fughetta by Giuliani which almost could qualify as a fugue.

Cheers, Marten

Perhaps somewhat later, but there's a fugue by Coste too, in Les Cloches Opus 21.

Thanks Peter, yes I remember this small fugue which I think is from the 1850s. I think it is quite interesting that Diabelli wrote the only true fugues for guitar during the "classical" era.
