Capo use in public performance 1790-1860

This is a bit of a stretch but I'm looking for evidence of capo/cejilla use (ca. 1790 - 1860) in _public performances_. Was its use confined to teaching and domestic environments?

Specifically, would Giuliani and Mertz have performed with one? Thank you.

Definitely used at least when they played duets (which required a capo).

Thank you, James. I was just hesitant. Most present-day classical performers seem shy of its use.
