Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

Which are the differences between the antiques guitars "schools" in Europe? Books on this issue?

Hello,

I am recently develop a kind of passion for antiques guitars. Suddenly I see a new very interesting world I want to know about it.

I imagine this passion lead me to try to get as many information as possible about these fantastic guitars.

One of the main questions I have now is to try to know which are the differences between the different kind of guitars were develop in the different Europe regions during last centuries.

Talking about Antique guitars made in France (Mirecourt, Paris..), England (Panormo School), Spain, Italy ..  I often heard about the diferrent kind of sounds these guitar luthiers were creating.  Things like France normally has warmer, more sustain sound, England has more crispy, short sustain, more volume sound ....

Looking for people with more experience and more knowledge on these issue I would like to ask in this forum about what is your opinion on it and from your experience and knowledge to know more about the differences (not only in sound) between these "schools" of antique guitars making.

Also will like to ask which quality books you can recommend to know more about these guitars.

thank you very much.

Regards,

Alberto Cuellar.

Welcome in the incredible  world of historical guitars! The best thing is to try them to understand differences between them: a guitar made in 1830 in Paris is so different regarding a guitar (same period) made in Vienna or in Turin, or in London, etc…… and of corse of a guitar made in Spain!

Welcome

Thank you very much Francoise for your advice.

Yes, you are right. That is always the main thing. I'll try my best to try them as many as possible!.

Alberto.
