Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

I've finally decided to sell this, having rather definitively decided I'm not going to advance in the guitar to the point where I'm worthy of an instrument this good. Apparently my fate is to be a viola da gamba players, and there are worse fates.

This circa 1830 guitar bears no label, but (how common this is I don't know) has a body outline that is an exact match to the Lacote featured on the Crane website. I acquired it at a French auction several years ago. Extraordinarily nice sound per local early romantic guitar players who have played it. Action professionally re-set so it is appropriately low.

Numerous small past repairs and the usual signs of surface wear. It has remained stable and in good playing order over the time I've owned it.  I'm happy to send detailed pictured of every square cm of the instrument if you have serious interest. Comes in a hard case.

Buyer to pay packing/shipping.

Width at nut: 46 mm (or perhaps 45.5?)

String length: 62.8 cm

distance between fingerboard bottom of first string at 12th fret: 3.5mm

distance between top of 12th fret and bottom of first string: 2.5  mm

$2500 firm. Located in Portland Oregon USA

It's a nice Lacote school guitar: a good price for America, and should sell. But I am writing to you because I am interested in learning more about your Lyre guitar playing. Could we talk though j@theguitarmuseum.com please? thank you, James

This will definitively sell fast, it is a superb example of an Lacote(for a fraction of the cost).

If I were in the USA I would ask for Loan (if needed) to buy it...

Thanks for your feedback Roman. Having had the guitar up from the basement for a few days, I'm realizing I'm a fool to part with it until the point where I give up on romantic guitar entirely....I probably won't find another one this good in my price range if I ever want this style guitar in the future. So off the market it goes for now!

And now back on!
