Thank you, Scot. It's a funny coincidence that I've just taken Gasser's book out of my mailbox! I came across this book a few days ago and thought that it might be useful... I've also found quite a lot of general information about vihuela fantasias on John Griffiths' web site, and there is also something about Narvaez in particular.
Sounds good Dmitry.
There is a book on the music of the vihuelaists, mainly Luis Milan, written by Luis Gasser, which I found very helpful. "Luis Milan On Sixteenth-Century Performance Practice". http://www.amazon.com/Sixteenth-Century-Performance-Practice-Public...
There's also this paper on-line which might be of some help understanding the Fantasia form in general. Again Luis Milan is the center of attention but I did find it helpful to some degree.
Thank you, Rob!
I still can't quite figure out the structure of this piece; all my phrasing here is largely intuitive and, perhaps, somewhat random. It appears that this fantasia is not very popular. I have only found two recordings: one by Juan Carlos Rivera, another by Jorge Fresno. If anyone here has been playing this fantasia, or knows some other recordings, I would appreciate any information or performance insights...
