Dear Martyn,

Thank you for your interest. You will find answers to your questions in the following article: Sinier de Ridder, The appraisal and restoration of a guitar ascribed to Matteo Sellas, Venice c.1640", Classical guitare volume 26, n°2, october 2007, as well as at this link: Digital booklet campion music for baroque guitar by Klassiek.nl - i...

The guitar was brought back to playing condition by Alexander Batov.

Regards,

Bernhard

Dear Bernhard,

Is the instrument signed or are there any objective indications that it's 'from the workshop of Matteo Sellas'?  The inlays, general shape, peghead design, decoration, rose, bridge design etc look much the same as other instruments made by various makers in Italy in the early/mid seventeenth century.

What is its provenance?

Have any repairs or 'restoration' been made as far as you're aware?

regards,

Martyn
