Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

Luthier, Wolfgang Emmerich gave me a loan of this instrument for a few days. Half baroque guitar, half archlute. Music by Granata.

Yes, Harry, I have seen Luciano's guitar on his website. I'm sure the same music could be played on either instrument. There is debate over whether the guitar shape could give a good sound to the bass strings. I have no idea.

Very beautiful, Rob. I know Luciano Faria of Brazil builds an instrument which he calls a Theorbed Guitar with a lot of bass strings, but the guitar itself has 6 strings like the modern guitar although it's built like a baroque guitar in appearence. Perhaps one could play the same music on this instrument as well? Personally I prefer the guitar shape to the "slippery" lute bowl!
