My guitarist son and I, as Grupo Lavolta, performing a "Canario" by Carlo Calvi (1610-1670) imperfectly but still with a lot of spirit. The modern charango sounds right at home on this early music.

I'm very surprised. How did Calvi end up with it? I really know nothing about him aside from this piece.

It might surprise you to learn that that particular canarios first appears in a Scottish lute manuscript...
