Does anybody know how I can find the originals for Rudolf Straube's music for English guittar? I am especially interested in the solo works performed by Taro Takeuchi . 3 Sonatas with continuo are…Continue

Mysterious guitar?

This is a Russian seven string guitar. What puzzles me is the shape of the body and the bridge. These looks English (Panormo style) to me but in the same time, the ornamentation looks German and then…Continue

Strange guitar tunings or error?

Can anyone explain the transcription of chords A, C, D, E, F, G? This is from Craig H. Russel's article in "The Cambridge Companion to the Guitar" Ed. Coelho. The text does not say anything about…Continue

Diabelli fugues

Hello,I have a question. The two fugues by Diabelli are of course true rarities during the early 19th century. But are they unique? Do you know of other fugues for guitar written c:a 1790-1830? I can…Continue

"Hi Marten, the facsimile by Chanterelle that is called 'Three Sonatas' contains a great deal more music besides the sonatas. I think most of Straube's guittar music is in that facsimile. "

Neglected Russian music in Germany at Kirchenschiff

November 4, 2018 from 7pm to 9pm
Next week in western Germany (very close to the Netherlands) I will perform a concert of the unjustly neglected Russian guitar repertoire. The concert will include a modern premiere of the Sonatina from 1798 by Ignaz von Held, a piece that (to my knowledge) hasn't been performed for at least 150 years. The rest of the concert will mainly consist of the romantic repertoire by Sychra, Sarenko, Alexandrov and Vetrov but I will also include some music by the legendary "gypsy style" genius Sergey…See More

Mysterious guitar?

This is a Russian seven string guitar. What puzzles me is the shape of the body and the bridge. These looks English (Panormo style) to me but in the same time, the ornamentation looks German and then there is the detachable neck of Stauffer style. And then the Russian seven string set up. Any ideas?http://earlyguitar.ning.com/m/photo?id=2111060%3APhoto%3A76780See More

"I am afraid the whole article is a mess - Russell doesn't know very much about the baroque guitar or indeed a lot of other things and his written English is atrociously slangy.  It is astonishing really that a reputable academic publisher…"

"Thank you. This explain the tablature. But his transcriptions are still utterly bizarre, they do not make sense in either Millioni's tuning or an ordinary tuning. It is too bad I didn't manage to upload the photo..."

Monica Hall replied to Marten Falk's discussion Strange guitar tunings or error?
"Millioni's book does in fact indicate scordatura for his alfabeto straordinario. I'm afraid Craig Russell just got  it wrong.  At lot of other things are wrong too. Notably the Aguirre manuscript from which he has reproduced…"
