Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

I bought this easily convertible left handed cuatro at a local auction recently. It would, perhaps, be useful as a five course practice guitar.

I think it is better if to play an "aguinaldo cagueño" a "seis" or some other Puerto Rican standard.  That music is actually very interesting,  I recommend listening to Maribel Delgado. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3IXlh89B_8

It would be nice to know if this instrument is somehow related to the baroque guitar, the vihuela or some other early guitarroid.

If you are using the usual cuatro steel strings, you would have to be as strong as the Hulk to play Bartolotti on this one.  If you change to nylon it might be a bit too quiet.
