Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

I recently stumbled upon this page.  Check under the name of the first composer on the list, Egidio Albanese, and you will find three sonatas for violin and " guitar 5-strings".  The music is definitely NOT what you would expect for a baroque guitar.  Besides, the date seems a bit late for that.  Actually this score, with plenty of arpegios and scale passages, sounds more like19th century guitar and flute/violin music (Carulli, Giuliani, Gelli, etc) than I would expect for something written by a composer whose dates are near the middle of the 18th century.

Actually, this sounds pretty good on a "normal" classical guitar.  At the risk of saying the wrong thing, I believe that this sounds better on my 6-string classical guitar than on my 5-course guitar.

Any ideas on what instrument the composer had in mind? Anyone know anything about Mr. Albanese?
