Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

Anyone knows or bought Thomann Baroque Guitar on the website?  I am tempted to buy one, it looks really good but I am worried the peg may be a problem, you need to keep tunning all the time. The tone not good and very low volume. If there is any of these problems I wouldn't be buying.

I am not able to find out anything on this baroque guitar so please if you have any informations I would be obliged for your advice.

Sorry folks if this question of Thomann Baroque guitar had been asked before but I went through the old questions and didn't see this question so I hope someone would be kind enough to answer.

The price is Euro 419.00 but I think the case had to be bought separately  and freight charges also not included yet.  For Euro 419.00 is really the lowest I can find on the market.

Hello Hans, are you still there?  I hope members of this forum can be forgiving because this question may have been asked before.

Since the frets are different from classical guitars I cannot use the scores from classical guitars or can I do that? Do I use tablature for baroque guitar? Then all the scores and tablature of my classical guitar are quite useless then.  Please overlook my ignorance because where I live even my classical guitar teacher doesn't know much about baroque guitar. I didn't want to embarrass him by more question so I found this forum after some soul searching hard work.

I really like to thank everyone who had responed to my questions earlier on.  Best regards

( wanting to play baroque guitar music is not easy, so much to find out even before I could put my finger on the gut strings)

I dont play baroque guitar yet (I will !) but on renaissance guitar and lute , which I  do play, I  use whatever I have, which is classical guitar scores, french lute tab, and modern tab - they all usually seem to work fine, maybe with some small adjustments. Ideally we go to the original - but it is not always immediately available. It really isn't difficult to learn french tablature. But as for the upside-down  Italian tab ...... in my case it needs practice

Thank you very much indeed Hans, now I have a general idea of this whole thing.  I wonder why Baroque guitar music is not widely known, the music is so beautiful. I am willing to give up my classical guitar music for baroque guitar music if I need to.

     Best regards Hans, Yong

Apologies in advance for the necro post but I recently had the good fortune of the bridge slingshotting off a Roosebeck Baroque Guitar. I’m thinking that they probably should have left the bolts in place that they used to originally clamp the bridge to the top for gluing. The unplanned glue failure seemed like a good opportunity to dink around with the timber frame bracing at the same time. It took a solid hour to carefully pry, chisel, saw and curse the back off of the guitar but it was worth it to actually see how overbraced the tone sucking top actually was. It was an added treat to see the neck block secured with 3 drywall screws!

I’ve seen how some surviving Baroque guitars were originally braced but I was wondering what bracing pattern is optimal for the Roosebeck Baroques. The guitar appears identical to other Thomann variants manufactured in Pakistan.

I do not know about the Thomann BG but I had purchased a Heartland BG from Muzikkon and is was awful. Cost was around USD$ 750.00. It sounded like a ukelele and the pegs were not a good fit and the strings were awful. It did come in a nice padded gig bag.
