Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

A little bit of topic, but has anybody seen such a guitar?
From Google patents. Enhanced sustain! The picture speech for itself I think...
It seems that in 1880 something like this was used in a violin!

I haven't seen this kind of guitar, but I remember that a small company made a compact mechanical spring reverb box that can be attached between the bridge and the tail piece.  I think the effect is the same as the patent (?) described above.

Do you have the link to where you found this? I cannot seem to find it. I might try it on one of my new builds if I can figure out what all the numbers refer to.

Thanks Hans. There's more info there than I thought there would be. Interesting. Doesn't look like it was a big hit as I've never seen such an instrument. But could be fun.

Yes there are! What fun it is to experiment, too. I'm contemplating a resonator lute or vihuela. If it works I'm going to try to sell it to Jerry Douglas!....just kidding.

I have always wondered what affect parchment roses (wedding cake style) had on the sound of baroque guitars since seeing a tornavoz on a 19th Century guitar.
