Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

Found this on the website of the Leipzig museum. It came from a museum in Cologne, Germany. A practice or travel guitar. The 'body' with 5 soundholes is 19 cm and it has gut frets. Dated '19th century'. Josef Zuth mentions this instrument in his book.

And the guy who invented the "Stick Bass" thought he was so clever. It had already been done a couple hunderd years ago...go figure.

I can imagine Mauro Giuliani "rocking" the gardens of the Schonbrunn Palace with one of these. Pretty interesting instrument. I might have to make one. Is there more info available on it somewhere?

Ah, that's a longer version of the Shredneck!  :D
