Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

I've now order a Terz guitar by the german maker Bernhard Kresse. And now I'm planning to collect all the music written for the terzguitar. I know about the guitarduos by Mertz and Giuliani composed some pieces. But is there something else. Please help me

Hi Lars, there are some very nice Beethoven arrangements (for two guitars) by Schuster. And a duet (Potpourri) by Mueller. I think you can find them in the Copenhagen Royal Library website. If not let me know and I will mail them to you. There are also pieces for terz and piano by Pettoletti and others. And trios for violin, viola and terz guitar by Küffner (also from Copenhagen).

And many guitar solo pieces work well on a terz. I use a terz guitar to accompany a countertenor singer, I play the accompaniment as written, and he sings a sixth lower.

Hi Jelma.

I know about the Müller and the Schuster music but havnt played it. Have You played it and if so is it any good

Hi LarsRuben, I played some of them a few years ago, I think I liked them. It is anyway great to play some Beethoven for us as guitarists! But it's really a matter of taste so why not give these things a try :-) There is also a fun quartet by Pettoletti that needs two tertz guitars, one normal guitar and one guitar a tone below standard...

Hi jelma

the message before was from lars writing on Rubens profile

Look at freescores!!

You may find lots of guitar duets I think...
