Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

Mel Wong did a great job for my Sabionari copy. Now I need to raise its action slightly. I heard that a certain unnamed baroque guitarist in the Bay Area inserts a piece of a popsicle stick underneath the strings to raise the action. Any thoughts? A small shim of ebony sitting atop the bridge?

A small ebony shim would work and is probably the easiest thing. However, putting the action up too high might put undue stress on the bridge. Before doing anything, I'd contact Mel and get his input...maybe he'll pipe in, he zips through here once in a while.

Very pretty guitar BTW. I'm looking forward to hearing you play it...soon, right...???
