Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

Hi Everybody, I need some assistance with details on this guitar. There is no long any inscription inside the body. It has Baker tuning machines. It was aquired at auction but the previous owner has since passed on. He said the guitar was 19th century.

Any help greatly appreciated.

It's by Joseph Gerard, London c. 1840

Hi James, thanks for the reply.

How do you know this is the maker?

As there is no makers stamps or inscriptions, is there any way to prove the piece to get it valued?

please email me and I'll share the information from my forth coming book. Or if you prefer take a look at the Gerard guitar at the RCM. jrw84@cam.ac.uk

Thanks James,

I sent you an email there.
