A network for historic guitars and vihuelas
Luis de Narváez composed this setting of Josquin des Prez's song Mille Regretz (a thousand regrets). This piece is also known as "Canción del Emperador". It is found in "Los Seys Libros del Delphin" published in 1538.
I think this is one of the most beautiful pieces ever written for the Vihuela. Performed by Daniel Shoskes on a Larsen gut strung Vihuela.
Lyrics to the original song:
A thousand regrets at deserting you
and leaving behind your loving face,
I feel so much sadness and such painful distress,
that it seems to me my days will soon dwindle away.
