Luys Milán (1535) "Aquel cavallero, Madre"

Luys Milán: "Aquel cavallero, Madre" (Rómulo Vega González) El Maestro (Valencia, 1535)-versión D. Munrow /D. Munrow version.

The original instructions state:

1. "el cantor puede HAZER GARGANTA y la vihuela ha de yr muy a espacio", (The singer can THROAT the voice and the vihuela is to go slowly"). Thus, the singer embellishes the singing line with scales like the vihuela does in rapid sections. While throating the singing line, the vihuela player just plays plain chords.

2. "el cantor ha de cantar llano y la vihuela ha de yr algo apriessa", ("The singer shall sing plainly and the vihuela is to go fast") According to this, the vihuela now goes fast in scales and the singer sings long notes.

Thanks a lot, Scot. My pleasure! This "throating of the voice" makes it quite Spanish, I think.

Very nice! You have a beautiful voice. I played many of the Milan songs with a singer back in my university days but I dare say you do a much better job than we did.
