About me:
Cultural musicologist with interests in 16th century Italian music, historical plucked string instruments, issues regarding gender, race, and sexuality. I am a professor at University of California, Santa Cruz and also a professional performer, especially on theorbo and lute. I am beginning a new research project on the use of the 19th century guitar in British colonies, particularly So. Aftrica. I spend most summers in Ireland playing in festivals and writing.
