Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

Detail of mural in Hengrave Hall, Suffolk, circa 1595.

Home of Thomas Kytson, merchant and patron of music. His musicians included Edward Johnson and John Wilbye. The mural is not by a great painter, and has been extensively reworked. However we do seem to have here both a 'renaissance' guitar and either a 'baroque' guitar or possibly a vihuela. (Kytson had extensive business overseas.)
