I have to confess that I have only seen this in photographs, in particular of the G.C. guitar in Paris, but it is also apparently (not easy to draw!) shown in at least one Sellas drawing.  The Voboams use something similar, but with the wedge seemingly reduced to a minimum - I always retain the full wedge.  I find it good also for my bandoras and orpharions.

Interesting photo series Peter. Are the wedges as Sellas would have done or your innovation? I know a number of modern makers that do the same thing so I'm just curious if it's a historical technique. Either way, it's a slick way to make a nice joint for the sides to neck.

Sellas-style neck joint using wedges and a short slipper-foot which rests upon "dead-wood" occupying a notch cut from the mould.
