James Marriage (http://www.jminstruments.com/) very kindly sent me a piece of 7000 year old bog oak for the fingerboard of the baroque guitar I am building. I have a bog oak fingerboard on the (very nice) baroque lute that James made for me, which I like. Bog oak is a nice alternative to ebony for fingerboards, and doesn't have the negative environmental impact.

I did indeed Jan, and I also now have the original GAL article, which I found very interesting.
