Early 19th century guitars often had an extra hole in the peg head. Once mechanical tuners became common then the hole for the strap or hanging the instrument, as Valery points out, was no longer needed. One almost never sees this feature on instruments with mechanical tuners. I've seen one or two but I could not rule out the possibility that either the tuners or the hole were a later addition.
It's interesting that your Remy has features from the era of the 5 course guitar. Like the angle of the peg head and it's ornate shape. Very cool.
