The Metzler & Son label would be pre-1833, but the guitar is not so someone perhaps pasted an older label in the guitar. Perhaps Marcus Moses?

I had always suspected it was from the 1840's but was surprised when I found out that Metzler & Son changed to Metzler & Co. in 1833 when the son took over. So the label appears to be no older than 1833 unless they had extras laying around, but I doubt they would paste an old label themselves. After showing the guitar to Erik Hoffman he confirmed the guitar would be from the 1840's. He also pointed out the later German machines which aren't a perfect match. I had always wondered why the sides of the head were not finished and now it makes sense.

Hi Robert, why would the Metzler label be from before 1833 and why is the guitar not? Attractive guitar by the way :-)
