How are you? Life was a bit too interesting the last time we talked. We are much better here. I am having fun tinkering with this site and contacting old friends.
I probably have a few sources which you might find interesting...
Hi Pat,
I just got in from a trip to Boone, NC. The air is so clean up there; I've got to figure out a way to move there. The guitar I'm holding is a Stephen Barber copy of the Ashmolean Stradivari guitar at 67 cm (I received the instrument, I think, around 2001). Ken Brodkey is going to cut a new nut for this guitar. He's also going to finish a theorbo for me this summer or early fall. I decided to replace my Perkhounkov theorbo, which I'll probably have for sale after Ken delivers his theorbo.
Anyway, I hope the lute camp went well. Please stay in touch.
Hi Pat,
I love your pictures here. I did have a chance to walk around the Met and see those guitars once. And that picture of you and Ray is wonderful.
All best,
Jocelyn
I know that Tyler has high praise for Valdambrini (and devotes over a page to this work), but Boye makes no qualitative judgement (but gives good information). I hope to see them some day. The first book looks particularly interesting to me, given the range of musical forms and dance types.
Dear Maestro Pat. What an honor to reach you here. I'm a newby Lutist. I got an 8 Course renaissance Lute few weeks ago after more than 25 year playing classical guitar. You inspired me to start to study the lute. Thank you.

Dear Mr. O'brien,
Some years ago I read some rumors saying that you and Mr. O'dette were about to release a book on technique for renaissance lute. Does this book actually exist? If so, where can I purchase it from? Anyway, I am currently seriously studying renaissance lute and vihuela, and I am looking for exercises. I have found some warm-up exercises by you on the net, which I find very useful. Is there any way I can obtain more exercises from you?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Kind regards, Floris.
Dear Pat,
I was quite seduce by the Valdambrini Rocky put on his page, and trying to learn more. James Tyler higly praise this music too, so I began my research to find the two books of Valdambrini. San' Cecilia library doesn't answer, but Monica Hall thinks maybe you have a copy: is there any way to get another one, or to have a copy, or whatever you feel convenient...
Best regards
Thank you so much, Pat! Gary Boye says this tablature is difficult to interpret, and it's true: but many bizarre and illogical things seem to be only and mostly errors of lines! Read like that, high level music. It's worth to work on it, even editing is more tricky than usual. Do you think it's possible to put that in the scores data of the group, or is it unfair for Gary Boye and the library?
Dear Pat,
Thank you ever so much for your speedy reply.
I am doing a PhD on Guitar Making of 19th Century London. Many years ago, in my last life I worked for an auction house in London and we sold June a Bambina guitar by Louis Panormo (not one of the Pratten models). I am desperate to trace this guitar and obtain some information.
I have written to Monica via the same way as I did you.
Thank you for the leads.
I guess soon you'll be going to the bar in Manhattan for another drink.
If I track this guitar down, I'll send you some money to have one on me too!
Thank you so much,
James

Dear Pat, Remember me, I was asking you about June Yakeley's instruments. I don't know if I actually told you, but I saw them! But I am emailing you today to tell you that I will be at the AMIS conference in May, and wondered if you wanted to go for a drink in the bar in Manhatten that you used to frequent with June? please reply at j@theguitarmuseum.com James

Hi William.
If you haven't got the loose fret fixed before Tuesday, the usual stopgap is to wedge a little bit of matchstick under it to tighten it up.
