Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

I have noticed a rather strange dissonance in Valderrabano's setting of Josquin's Benedictus from Missa Ave Maris Stella (Silva de sirenas, fol. 86v). Measures 5-6 have B-natural on the 3rd course (assuming vihuela tuned in G). It sounds a bit odd, at least to my ears, and Josquin's original seems to suggest B-flat here instead of B-natural. What do you think? Maybe I am missing something, and the use of B-natural can be somehow justified... I know two recordings of this piece, by John Griffiths and Alfred Fernandez, and they both play it as printed in Silva de sirenas, so I am quite confused.
