Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

I may sell a 19th sentury guitar, as my appartment seems to get a bit full.

Here's the specs: A probably French ca 1840? guitar, that needs some repair or restoration. No label or maker's mark.

Very fine-grained spruce top that may have been stained later, rosewood sides, rosewood-on-spruce laminated back. Ebony fingerboard, modern frets. Nice mother of pearl leave-pattern around soundhole. 8-shape head with ugly banjo-tuners (!). Original or very appropriate moustache bridge. Has some crude but stable repairs. The neck has a very slight bow.

You could have all of the guitar's problems fixed by a guitar restorer, or play it as it is. The sound is quite good. There is an old or historic case with it, a bottom-opening leather thing, great fun but not so practical.

I'll restring it and make a little recording on it, and post it over the weekend. I'm thinking of a price of around 900 euros.

Do phone or email me for more pictures or info.
