Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

Dear friends,

I am a baroque guitar newby and you may have some experiences to share with me.

My baroque guitar after Sellas has a string lenght of 69,5 cm, what is a bit uncomfortable for some solo pieces (such as Robert de Visée). On the other hand, there are other gutiars with much less. Are those - more or less – the instruments the solo reportoire is written for?

I also heared that b. quitars had different tunings (some semed to be tuned in d). Is this probably the right tuning for my bigger guitar?

Thanks, Jörg
