Event Description

Alexander Lagoya. 1929 -1999.

Born of Greek and Italian parents, famous from a very young age, he was a student of the composer

Heitor Villa-Lobos. It was in Paris that he met the great guitarist Ida Presti whom he married.

Together they formed the duo, Prestigious Lagoya, and went on to become the greatest guitar duos of

the twentieth century. His career was interrupted with the premature death of Ida Presti, and after a

silence of five years, he resumed his career as an international soloist, with numerous concerts and

recordings. He was the founder and a professor of guitar at the Conservatory National Supérieur de

Musique de Paris, where he taught between 1969 and 1994 and also at the Schola Cantorum de Paris

where he trained many guitarists. Enthusiastic researcher, he was a friend of the great musicians of his

time, Jean-Pierre Rampal and Django Reinhardt. He had developed a personal playing technique, and

order custom made instruments from the best luthiers of his day.

These are his personal guitars, all in perfect condition and certified, to be offered to musicians during

public auction on Saturday 15 December 2012, Vichy (France).
