I am fascinated by the little Stradivari baroque guitar, Cité de la musique, Paris, E 901.6, string length 33 cm, pitch e”. There is a technical drawing available from the GAL.

I would like to know, how this instrument can be used, in which repertoire. Is there any source or tabulature?

Hello Everybody,

These 3 tarantellas are being posted here for convenience. These are the only 3 Tarantellas by Murcia that I know of. If there are any more please post the information within this thread. The Tarantellas are labeled 1 - 3, 1 being the easiest and 3 the hardest. Tarantellas 1 & 2 are quite similar to each other with 2 being longer and more intricate. There are a few youtube videos with renditions of Tarantellas 2 & 3 - the performances are quite good!

The Lute Society have just added my translation of the instructions on accompanying a bass line from Sanz. It is at www.lutesociety.org/pages/baroque-guitar. It is at the end after the other translations. I may do the rest of it but we had a request for this bit so I prioritised it.

Hello all,

I just would like to inform you that the german lute society has published the LIBRO PRIMO DE CHITTARA SPAGNOLA (Milano 1671) with 10 Sonatas for baroque guitar by Michele Platano.
Dear members,

while trying to find out how to play the music in F-Bn, ms.2344 de Mr. Dupillé (Tablature de guittarre, 1649) I found a strange letter looking like a crossed out b. That cannot be an error by the scribe or copyist because it's present like this in several pieces. I guess it must be some kind of ornament, but I have no idea how to play this. For example: upper voice: note c [letter "b" crossed out, 2nd course] - lower voice: d [letter: "a" on 4th course]. Have a look on the example attached here. Does anyone know what this tab-letter means and how to play it?
