I have been reading your discussion with Eloy via Google Translate. The last internet source you mentioned refers to a tablature in the manuscripts division of the Mexican National Library: MS 1560 (formerly 1686). It contains sections of both violin music and guitar music. Robert Stevenson gives a title list in his book "Music in Aztec & Inca Territory" (reprint 1976) on pages 236-237. He dates the music to the first half of the 18th century. Miguel Alcazar made a recording of pieces from the manuscript.

Juan, your discussion on finding scores has created a nice improvement to our Ning group. There is now a new menu tab, a listing of scores, and links to the various member pages where the scores can be found. For the time being I will be maintaining the the score list. Let me know if you have any suggestions for improving the list.

It's fantastic that you are sharing some unknown (to me) Guatemalan music! Thank you! What can you tell us about early Guatemalan guitar music? Is there much early guitar music surviving? What sort of notation was used?
