Hi Stuart, thanks for your interest in my research. The style characteristics of the guitar tell that it's 19th century. This is supported by the shape and size, the strapbutton, the bracing and the traces/shape of the former bridge on the soundboard. Karagantcheff's music wasn't published. Through his son I obtained his musical belongings which includes a lot of sheetmusic (orchestral compositions, guitar music and piano & vocal parts).

I read through your website. You have chosen a fascinating topic and a life to explore. I have probably missed some things though. Why do you suppose the guitar is 19th century? I couldn't see any details of his music. Was it published - or in manuscript? Anyway I wish you all success with your project.

Hi Stuart, thanks for your comment :-). The Russian guitar is currently in restoration (through crowdfunding, Karagantcheff-project). It will be set up as a 7-string in the tuning DGBdgbd'. I intend to play it again. As a part of the Karagantcheff-project it is my purpose to perform Karagantcheff's music on his original guitar.

An interesting trio. Do you know the approximate date of the Russian seven-string? Is it currently set up as a six-string (EADGBE)?

Do you play the 7-string DGBDGBD?
