It's very pink here Jelma! ... rather nice... I'm intrigued by the 1759 Sanguino, but I hesitate to ask on the Lute site :~) what else was happening that I never knew about before? Were there 6 course guitars by this time as well? That 'here' trick for reaching other sites is very clever....

Hi Jelma
Thank you so much for the link to the Renaissance guitar music and the information about the French Lute Society's book.
Very nice of you.

Thank you Jelma, glad you approve of my painting - not finished it yet though... I'm sure I'll come up with an excuse for another photo and use it again as a background when it is all completed!

Hello . Sorry for my scholary English . This view is coming from The Cité de la Musique , in Paris , and it is a Bandora ( Barok Guitar bass , 10-strings , tuning ???) one of the three in France ( 2 in the same place , and 1 in Le musée des Arts Décoratifs , also in Paris ). I asked for looking them in August 2005( may be) at Joel Dugot , director , and I see in december (+/-) . The tuning is in an English book for Tr.viol , flute , tenor lute , cittern, bandora , and bass of viol . Copyright 1977 by The Musica Britannica Trust ,"Pieces from the Walsingham Consort Book ( 1588 ) " and " Rosseter's lessons for consort ( 1609 )"( modern notation , the tuning -6 curses- is also written at the beginning, in french tabulature ) . Double metallic strings :1° A3 , and you go down like a guitar . So 5° D1 , and down tune by tune 10° F ( but F-zero does-it exist ??? ) . If I can tell you more ....JBD

Beste Jelma,

Groetjes,

Jan

Hi Jelma. I found the spanish base of the re-formed Renaissance workshop co... guitar kit is there -( www.renwks.com ), if you hadn't asked me about it I'd never have found out that it is still thriving!

Hello Jelma,
Thanks for asking! That is my 4-course Renaissance guitar built 2 years ago by Lucio Nunez in San Antonio, Texas (http://www.lucionunezguitars.com/). I named it "El Alamito", since the peg head top has the "Alamo" silhouette so ubiquitous in that region. String length is 54 cm., and Olav Chris Henriksen (Boston Catlines) designed a nice set of strings for it as an "A" instrument. I have it tuned to A=415, which gives it a nice combination of tone and feel.
When arriving at specs for the instrument, I wanted to get away from the "plinky" quality of so many Renaissance guitars, so I had Lucio build the depth to 7 cm. This extra air gives the instrument some extra fullness and considerable projection!

Regards, Michael
