I have been building lutes and early guitars for 40 years. During the last 15 years I have concentrated on theorbos, archlutes and baroque guitars. Occasionally I have had time to build a late 18th century or early 19 century guitar; Aubert, Benedid, Lacote and Stauffer. I'm also writing a blog on my building activities; http://schreinerlutesandguitars.blogspot.ca/
Hey Michael, I get them from Rubner in Germany. Ask for "Halsschraube fur Gitarre". I think they are part number 150-000-504.
Rubner also handmakes the Stauffer style six to a side tuners (Staufermechanik) in both Brushed nickel and brass. Rodgers are still the best but these are very good, are delivered in a timely fashion and at a reasonable cost. The photo here is one of their brass sets. I like to believe, in my own little world, that I was instrumental in getting them to re-issue them a couple years back (In actual fact I think a number of early guitar makers were) so I let everyone know about the tuners so they'll keep them in their cataloque.
Hi Michael, I just discovered your blog and would also like to thank you for taking the trouble to document your builds. It is really helpful for hobbyists like myself.
Hello Michael, thank you for your invitation as a friend, I can see that you have a very interesting life building lutes and early guitars, I am sure you make beautiful work. Have you made any Vihuelas? I think you saw that I was asking for info about some mesuraments. Thanks again and have a wonderful evening.
