Thanks for your comment. The piece is from a lyra-viol tabulature in the Manchester Gamba book. This might be hard for you to get hold of, but it's full of relatively unknown pieces, some of which work really well on lute or theorbo. My video is a response to a video on YouTube from Rob MacKillop who plays the same piece in an original version for lute (to be found in the Panmure5 manuscript). Whether or not it's really a scottish lute piece nobody knows, but in any case it turned up in this scottish manuscript.
I'll send you a copy of the theorbo tab as a pdf if you like...

Je suis un peu perdu avec tous ces ning groupes ou l'on se retrouve plus ou moins tous cittern, baroque lute, lute), donc je reponds avec un peu de retard à votre question concernant mon instrument.
Effectivement mon instrument, bien que prenant racine en Italie, est bel et bien corse, du moins, l'est devenu au fil des siècles, et la "cetera" (cistre, en corse et en italien) que je possède est une version modernisée des cetere du début 19ème, avec rosace en parchemin et ce typique coeur incrusté sur la table. Elle a été faite avec un cerisier local bien vieux et bien sec qui lui donne une couleur réellement splendide, il est dommage que j'en joue si mal, mais elle a enregistré un ou deux disques jouée par d'autres mains que les miennes! :-). L'auteur de cette beauté est le luthier Bastiais Christian Magdeleine http://www.liutera-magdeleine.net , que je recommande volontiers tant le travail est soigné et passionné et tant la relation humaine entre le luthier et le musicien est sincère. J'espère avoir suscité encore plus d'interêt pour ce bel et encore malheureseument trop peu connu instrument,

Toi qui sais tout, (qui sait?) , connaîtrais-tu une pièce néerlandaise intitulée plus ou moins (en anglais) "Sweet Saint Nicolas" ?
Je cherche l'origine d'une pièce écossaise du manuscrit Rowallan portant ce titre.
Rob m'a répondu qu'il avait trouvé (il y a 20 ans !) une concordance, effectivement, avec une pièce néerlandaise, mais qu'il n'en a pas gardé trace.
Ceci m'empêche sérieusement de dormir (presque autant que les calamités qui s'abattent sur la fac ces temps-ci !).

Pour information, en ce qui concerne les "cordes grattées", nous sommes surtout axés sur la guitare renaissance, et encore "très", amateurs....

La pièce que je joue ouvre le recueil de 1659, le meilleur à mon avis et porte le titre: Toccata (del quarto Tuono). AL SIG. CONTE CESARE PIOVENI NOBILE VENETIANO

Il y aussi des très belles passacailles, assez exigentes aussi.
Comment ça va avec le Balcarres?

They have both been recently restored by Andrea Sibilio who works in Alessandria. I played the Voboam for the first time after the restoration last summer and the Sellas only three months ago. They have a completly different sound: the Sellas has a soft and bright sound, thin soundboard and bars, string lenght is 68. The Voboam has a thick top and very dark sound but much more louder than the Sellas. String lengh is very short: only 623 mm, probably shortened in the past.

les deux guitares sont de Luciano Faria à San Paulo.
Manuel Morais et moi nous sommes retrouvés dans le même hotel pour prendre livraison de nos instruments. Il y a une copie d'une guitare portugaise du XVIII et une copie inspirée de la Coch du Musée de la Villette ... J'ai vendu cette dernière qui est désormais dans les mains de TImo Peedu, un autre memebre du groupe.

Pour les Tonos humanos de Marin, c'est un truc qui me manque et je voudrai bien avoir une copie de l'original aussi ... Si ca se produit je fais circuler bien sûr !

Thanks for your kind comments. My thesis is not published yet (beyond the Library of DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama in Dublin, Ireland).
