About me:
I'm a retired Senior High School teacher with an MA-degree in History, Religion and English. I have been playing the guitar with irregular inactive intervals nearly all my life, I have never had any formal instruction, but have picked it up using several Teach Yourself books, esp. those of F. Noad. Thirty years ago I bought a Student Lute made by Alan Clarke, but have always found it a bit difficult to handle, the bowl slipping around in my lap etc. Therefore I bought a small vihuela two months ago, I like the guitar shape of this instrument better than the slippery bowl of the lute! I have an Alhambra 6c with Cedar top, and in two weeks I will get a new Loriente Clarita with Spruce top after having listened to the "expert reviewers" of Classical Guitar Forum. I do look forward to that! I have also converted my first smallish classic into a baroque guitar by installing 3 extra pegs and stringing it with baroque strings from Strings by Mail, and I think the result was good. I use the French tuning with octaves on the fourth course and unisons on the 5th and play Corbetta, de Visee. Sanz and others. But I wanted the real thing so 16 months ago ordered a Voboam from Luciano Faria of Brazil. It should have been ready for shipment in February but I am still waiting! So if anyone here knows something about Luciano, please let me know. 11 months ago I also ordered a Renaissance Guitar Kit from Giuseppe Tumiati of Italy, I was promised to get it before last Xmas, but now I am happy if I get before this year's Xmas! I also possess an Aria Sinsonido ,good for playing when other persons are to bed . I have a wife, 4 married daughters, one married son and 11 grandchildren. This in a nutshell the story of my life!

Sorry to hear of your problems getting instruments, Harry. It really is deplorable. I hope no-one else orders from these people.

Hei Harry, eg har betalt for ein barokkgitar + depositum for ein lutt.

Sikkert greit at han veit at fleire følger med.

Hei Harry, kan du sende meg ein epost på: tomduophon@yahoo.co.uk?

Harry, I've been wanting a fivre course guitar for years. The seriously high prices (even for "affordable" instruments) have meant this has been an impossiblity 'till now. I was intersted to see that you converted a standard classical guitar by adding extra pegs. How exactly did you do that? Do you have any photos of the result?
  • Steve Geroge

Thanks Harry. The Martín Zapala instrument looks great value,, but I'll still have to save up!
  • GRAHAM WADE

Dear Harry, Many thanks for your kind comments, very much appreciated. In the business of being an author on guitar matters, one gets a lot of adverse comments, some of them unbelievable in their venom, so a compliment or two is always wonderful! I've written some twenty-five books as well as a few hundred articles over the decades, and the reason I write is always to find out things I never knew before and to understand certain aspects of the subject better. But even a book such as my Concise History of the Classic Guitar can arouse extraordinary critical responses - some think it's too superficial, others too detailed, some that it covers too wide a historical span, others that it should have gone back to the Middle Ages, etc...But in the end you accept a format according to a publisher and try to oblige...But the good thing is that the little Concise History has been one of Mel Bay's best sellers since its publication...I'm very pleased about that...Best wishes, Graham Wade
  • Rafael

Hallo! do u work also with singers? l m current in Norway- Rafael.
  • Harry Jess

Rafael, no I'm not working with singers, I'm just a "home made" amateur who likes to sit in quiet nigth hours playing my guitars. I hope you will enjoy your stay in Norway!
    Best wishes
    Harry

Hi Harry. That guitar is actually an anonymous American 19th century copy by Tim Laughlin (built in 1995) with a 150+ year old piece of spruce for the soundboard. Sounds and plays great but is currently getting a crack in the bridge repaired (those darn bridge pins are nothing but trouble). Glad to hear that you have some reassurance on your instrument.
