Northeastern USA substitute for pearwood?

I'm just really getting started on my newest build, which is a vihuela de mano. I'm in the New York City area, and have been trying to stick to local lumber. The instruments i've looked at online use pearwood for a number of parts, including the neck and headstock. I was considering using American Cherry for those parts, but in looking up its properties, found that they're very different from pearwood.

Is anyone aware of any good Northeastern USA substitutes for pear?

Thanks!
