Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

I finally finished the J. A. Stauffer build and I have added a final series of photos to my page.

I strung up the guitar this afternoon and was very pleased with the volume and sustain coming from the little beast. The first few notes of a new instrument always give one pause as they are often harsh and unrefined. But after an hour or so of playing the voice begins to appear and hints of what will be come forth.

I never cease to be amazed and delighted at that transition.

Thank you to all who commented on the photos and especially thank you all for your patience in letting me show you a guitar being built.
