Early Guitars and Vihuela

A network for historic guitars and vihuelas

I'm building several Panormo model guitars and have finished two.  One is in Brazilian rosewood and the other is in maple.  I made both of these with fan bracing and they sound very good.  They are both surprisingly rich sounding while the maple one has a clearer tone.  The next one up is a maple model and I thought it should be a ladder braced French model Panormo.  I imagine it will be brighter than the fan braced one but I'm afraid it will be too dry, lacking overtone development.  I'd love to hear any opinions from players about the benefits of either bracing method.

Hello Bernie, have you discussed this with James Westbrook? He did a lot of research on Panormo and is a member on this site.
